Our Physician

Dr. Barboza, M.D., is a board-certified endocrinologist and internist. Most recently, Dr. Barboza served as Chief of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism at Jersey City Medical Center, part of Robert Wood Johnson Barnabas Health, and is currently the medical director of a weight loss/bariatric program in NYC, where she also continues to practice general endocrinology.

Dr. Barboza’s area of expertise includes:

  • Fine needle aspiration (FNA) of thyroid nodules
  • Adrenal and pituitary disorders
  • Diabetes / DM complicating pregnancy
  • Ovarian dysfunction
  • Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS)

    • Impact of exercise on weight loss and diabetes management

Dr. Barboza is a graduate of Universidad del Norte in Barranquilla, Colombia. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Lincoln Health and Medical Center, affiliated with Weill Cornell Medical College, and a fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism at the University of Vermont. During her training and practice, Dr. Barboza has been involved in basic science research in the field of insulin resistance, obesity, and diabetes. Additionally, she has been involved in clinical research in the fields of thyroid disorders and insulin pump management. She has presented her research at various endocrinology meetings.

She is a member of the Endocrine Society and the American Diabetes Association. Dr. Barboza is fluent in English, Spanish, and Portuguese thereby enhancing her communication and interpersonal skills in order to deliver the most effective health care and patient satisfaction. Dr. Barboza is a world traveler, self-proclaimed health food chef & avid fitness enthusiast, and bibliophile in several languages.

Ms. Richiez

Medical Assistant

Ms. Richiez is Doctor Barboza’s assistant. She has a Bachelors in Health, Biology, and Psychology, and is planning to attend Nursing school in the near future. Ms. Richiez has experience in both inpatient and outpatient patient care, with a special interest in diabetes. Naturally, with an academic background in psychology, Ms. Richiez approaches patients as a “whole”, taking into consideration their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being. Ms. Richiez is a retired competitive volleyball player and continues to practice crossfit.

Ms. Paredes

Registered Nurse

Ms. Paredes has a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and is currently completing her Nurse Practitioner program at Franklin University. Additionally, Ms. Paredes has a Master’s in nutrition and diabetes. Her personal experience as an internationally competitive swimmer and her formal education in Culinary Medicine further qualifies Ms. Paredes as an insightful and qualified provider in not only diabetes care but also in weight loss and weight maintenance. Ms. Paredes will be available to provide telemedicine consultations strictly in the areas of diabetes management, diet, and lifestyle modifications in the convenience of your home.
